Crocheting "lines"
My little guys and I crocheted some "lines" to use as manipulatives, or guns as my son chose to turn his into, as with everything he seems to touch, he loves to play hunting (later it became a necklace). We just chain stitched "lines" and then had fun forming our letters and numbers. A great video tutorial on the chain stitch can be found here at Crochet school. These are wonderfully done tutorials which I used to teach my 9 YO daughter how to crochet. We find some of the best manipulatives are those we craft together.

"Hot"...... glue batik
For a couple of years now I have been wanting to try glue batik with my kiddos. I first saw it here, at, That Artist Woman. Instead of using washable glue though, we used a hot glue gun, with mom's help of course! This is a super fun and super easy project, my kid's 9, 4, and 2 really enjoyed it. Here's what we did.
Supplies we used:
white bed sheet
hot glue gun and glue sticks
scissors
paint brushes
acrylic paint
ribbon
water jar
rags
painting boards
iron
needle
yarn
How we created our banner:
1. We planned out what we wanted, which was a banner that spelled out LOVE.
2. Cut out rectangles from a white flat bed sheet. I started each cut with scissors and then tore them to prevent fraying.
3. Used our hot glue to add our letter to each rectangle.
4. Let them dry a few minutes and then I wet each rectangle under the faucet and wrung them out.
5. Each child painted one rectangle how they wished with acrylic paint-this created a watercolor effect on the fabric.
6. Let them dry for a few hours.
7. Rinsed them in warm water, which I don't think is necessary, because no paint came off.
8 Peeled off each letter.
9. Laid them out to dry.
10. Ironed them on the backside covered with a cloth, just in case any paint was to come off.

Let's Try This Again!
Well, it's been a very long time since I started and stopped this blog (sigh!!). I am attempting to try this again. This has been my desire for a long time now, and I feel I need to just jump in. I hope to write frequently, documenting our life, as a christian family, homeschooling following Charlotte Mason's methods. Our family loves handwork, especially waldorf style handwork.
I hope to be a source of encouragement to other mom's out there. I pray you are blessed.

Sunshine!
The sunshine has been long awaited. Oh how i've missed hearing the sounds of nature.
The kids have loved the coat-less days. We're trying to finish up the school year, it's going pretty slowly though. We've been doing a lot of nature study which is always the kids favorites, and moms.
Here are the Critter homes we made yesterday. My 3YO made a snapping turtle home and my 7YO made a Toad home. These were fun and soooo easy.

A typical day!
Our day begins with running feet that belong to a 3 year old giggly girl saying "snuggle mama" as she climbs into bed with me. That lasts until about 7:00 a.m., when I slowly arise from my beauty sleep, lol!
Now my 7 yo and 3 yo are awake they know what is expected, has been for as long I can remember, but for some reason they can't seem to remember from day to day. Why is that? I thought it took 2 weeks to create a habbit, it's been more than that! Any ways, they need to get dressed, tidy their room, make their beds and do their hair before breakfast is served. During this time I get ready to "socks", thanks fly lady ( we don't wear shoes in our home) and little man wakes up and I dress him also. Finally we are ready to eat--it's now 8:00. While the kids are eating I read: Bible, Polite Moments, Making Brothers and Sisters Best friends, and Big Thoughts for Little People. Now these are not always read everyday, with exception to our Bible reading we might read the others 1-2 times weeks and review what we've learned and always give real life scenarios to make sure they are getting it.
While the girls brush their teeth mom eats! Then we start our "main" lessons-math, spelling, LA. During this time I am trying do play with the 3 yo and 1 yo. My 3 yo will do "school" happily. We will then all gather and snuggle in the living room or someones bedroom and do our read alouds. Which lately have been wonderful. We are reading Peril and Peace-the History Lives series and Saint Patrick Pioneer Missionary to Ireland-great can't put it down books. In between I read a couple of books to my 3 yo, her choice then back to our other read alouds.
Then it's lunch. After lunch there is play/free time, more reading, finish anything that wasn't completed in the morning and then at 2:00 is rest time for everyone. My 7 yo can read/play quietly, while my 3 yo is highly encouraged:) to take a nap, usually in mom and dad's bed. Rest time is 2 hours. Then we start dinner and set the table. We get the house in "order" for dad's soon arrival and pj's on.
Then it's dinner, clean up, some wrestling with dad and read alooud time and once in awhile a family movie and then off to bed at 7:00 p.m. for all people under 5'.
This is a typical day in our life. But as seasons change so does our rhythm.

Homeschooling
Our family consists of a 7 year old, 3 year old and 1 year old and yes we homeschool :).
It can be tricky at times, .....well a lot of the time.... having the little ones in tow, but it dawned on me not too long ago, why exclude them, why not include them. So going forward we are planning our learning times and activities to include them as much as possible. What does this look like? Well when we were learning about explorers we built a ship and my 7 yo and 3 yo worked together and had so much fun doing it. They still talk about it. They made "Limey Juice" together, venison jerkey, flags etc. they worked together and no pushing by mom, totally interest led. It was a blessing to see my girls work together....cooperatively. The memories....Priceless.
Here are links that we use, intend to, or just caught my eye.

Is it Spring Yet?
Well it sure has been a looong winter! I know the calendar says it's spring, but it sure doesn't feel like it. We are looking forward to warm sunny days, and oh yeah, green not white days! My middle girly is always asking "is it spring yet mommy?" She has some pretty girly dresses she can't wait to wear. Well she's waitied long enough, she slept in a sleeveless summer dress tonight. A 3 year old's patience can only go so far. LOL!
